Who are you?

I stumbled on this amazing quote one day while online:

Most people are just mirrors, they reflect the personality of others; instead be a flashlight, no matter what, keep shining through!

Powerful words there if you ask me. You see, it’s so easy to say, I love me, I’m proud to be me, I am happy being an achiever, and so on… But pause for a second and ask yourself, ” Realistically, who am I?” Sounds like an easy question to many but a careful consideration of this seemingly straight forward question might open the door to a myriad of doubts.

Come to think of it, when was the last time you took a decision after weighing your options carefully? Where you truly convinced that this was your choice and you weren’t in any way acting under the influence of whims and caprices of someone else? Can you stand by your convinctions? Are you simply a persona created just to blend in with the shade of crowd, to fit in with the others? Now I’m certain you’re thinking retrospectively.

You may believe this but listen up, there is only one corner of the universe that you can change and that is you! That’s right! You have a right to make your choices and stick by them even when the going gets tough. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying consultation or advice is wrong but don’t do something just because everyone else is doing same. Before embarking on any path, make sure this is what you really want, ensure that you will be able to weather whatever storms might come along as a result of your chosen course and don’t just act because everyone says or feels that there are benefits.

And the next time you are tempted to follow the crowd, please a friend or some friends by doing what they want or to prove a point ( for example, that you dare), remember these words:

I am me. I know I have flaws but I am working on my life to become the best person I could possibly be. No one on Earth is perfect enough or deserves to be a replacement for me. I am unique in my own right. I and who I was born to be!
